We are dedicated to advancing Americanism, supporting veterans and their families, and promoting service to the community.

The Richard H. Stewart Jr. Charitable Foundation is named after the namesake for the Richard H. Stewart, Jr. American Legion Post 543, based in St. James, North Carolina. Richard H. Stewart, Jr, was one of the nearly 3,000 victims who perished in the World Trade Center attack on 9/11.

Richie grew up in Kennett Square, PA, and was a very successful Ice Hockey player that went on to play for St. Lawrence University. After graduation, he hung up his skates and moved to work in New York City as a broker for Cantor Fitzgerald in the World Trade Center.

He found his calling in New York: working in the financial sector and helping others much less fortunate than he. He was one of those guys who always held out a helping hand.

Our Mission & Purpose

The purpose of the Foundation is to serve the community through the distribution of donations and grants to advance Americanism, enhance the National Defense, support active duty military and their families, support veterans and their families, and fund activities for youth and children to teach them citizenship and the value of education and service to the community. The Foundation actively seeks donations and grants.

In addition, deductible bequests, devises, transfers, or gifts are also welcome. These funds will be further distributed by the Foundation to charitable organizations in support of activities that comprise our purpose.  The Foundation will primarily support organizations within Brunswick County, North Carolina.  The Foundation has been determined to be a public charity by the Internal Revenue Service, with donations tax-deductible pursuant to Internal Revenue Code (IRC) 501(c)(3).
